About the Recipe
Thai Green Papaya Salad, or Som Tum, is a vibrant Thai dish made from shredded unripe papaya.
It’s tossed with lime, chilli, vegetarian fish sauce, and peanuts for a perfect balance of spicy, sour, salty, and sweet flavours. Fresh, crunchy, and zesty, it’s a refreshing salad that’s popular across Thailand.

Ingredients
4 Red Chillies
2 tbs Palm Sugar
4 Green Beans
23 tbs Lime Juice
2 tbs Thailand Soy Sauce
Small Green Raw Papaya
8 Cherry Tomatoes
3 tbs Ground Peanuts
Preparation
Step 1
Peel the papaya, remove the seeds, and shred the flesh.
Step 2
Crush the chillies in a mortar and pestle, then add the long beans and tomatoes, pounding lightly to release their juices.
Step 3
Add palm sugar, soy sauce, and lime juice into the mortar. You can always start with less seasoning and add more to your liking.
Step 4
Mix and lightly pound the dressing until the palm sugar is fully dissolved, ensuring there are no undissolved chunks.
Step 5
Add roughly a tablespoon of roasted peanuts (no need to measure — just a small handful will do).
Step 6
Gently pound for 30 seconds to lightly break up the tomatoes and peanuts.
Step 7
Lastly, add the shredded green papaya, gently mix with a spoon, and lightly pound until evenly coated with dressing.
